National Numeracy Day is all about getting the UK feeling good about everyday maths, and we want it to be as accessible as possible, across the country. So, for the first time ever, we’ve got a suite of resources in Welsh – and everything is free!
From Snowdonia to Swansea, adults to children, we want to help everyone get on with numbers so they can get on in life.
For children: The Number Heroes competition
The National Numeracy Day Number Heroes competition is now LIVE for 2024! There are six prize bundles for schools or youth groups to win, each worth over £1,000. There are also individual prizes for the six winning children and 18 runners-up.
To enter, children need to create a picture of how they will use numbers in their dream job or hobby. Maybe they want a cool career as a sculptor, a stunt performer, or a surgeon? Or would they rather dance or deep-sea dive?
Whatever their dream, we want to see and hear how it uses numbers! Children from youth groups, nurseries, primary and secondary schools, and homeschoolers can all take part. The competition is open to children aged 3-13, as well as children and young people in receipt of SEN support or an EHCP, in the UK only.
The Number Heroes worksheet is available in Welsh, and there is also a subtitled video resource for use in class.
For adults and children: The Big Number Natter
The Big Number Natter is the first ever nationwide conversation about numbers. Everyone has something to say about maths, and sharing experiences is a great first step towards building number confidence.
Celebrities, influencers, experts, and the Great British public will all share their stories about maths. Whether good, bad, or simply hilarious, we all have a tale to tell about numbers!
With posters, slides, and activity idea sheets all available in Welsh, there’s everything you need to start a conversation about numbers, and the opportunity to change lives for the better.
