EY is committed to creating a positive long-term impact in communities across the UK by bringing together the combined skills, knowledge and experience of its people.
EY works with a whole range of organisations to meet these goals through its corporate responsibility programme, EY Ripples, and its independent charity, the EY Foundation. In the last financial year alone, EY Ripples contributed to projects that positively impacted around 5.6m lives through the support of over 4,400 EY volunteers, and the EY Foundation supported a further 3,471 young people.
This close alignment of National Numeracy and EY’s values and goals will make for an exciting, highly impactful relationship over the coming year.
EY colleagues will soon join our committed group of volunteers, helping us to deliver and expand a powerful primary schools programme. The corporate volunteering programme is designed to inspire children to see the value of everyday maths and its role as an essential skill for their futures, through My Maths Story assemblies and Maths in the Real World classroom sessions.
We are delighted that EY will become a committed lead supporter of our nationwide campaigns, including National Numeracy Day, and Number Confidence Week this 4-8 November, empowering individuals to engage with educational tools and resources.
EY will also join the National Numeracy Leadership Council and Gender Taskforce, helping to steer national efforts to improve numeracy for equality, access to sustainable careers and enable widespread social mobility.
Sam Sims, Chief Executive of National Numeracy, said:
"It is a huge privilege to welcome EY as our newest corporate supporter. What’s clear, is that National Numeracy and EY share a deep commitment to supporting social mobility and their volunteers will play a crucial role in helping schools, children and local communities see the value of numbers beyond the classroom. By working together, we are striving to build number confidence and achieve positive change, and we can’t wait to get started."
Hywel Ball, EY UK Chair, said:
"I’m delighted that we are collaborating with National Numeracy to support their mission of building greater confidence with numeracy skills across the UK. Research shows that poor numeracy levels are often heightened in areas of low social mobility so working with National Numeracy to tackle this challenge is important to us and supports the ongoing work of the EY Foundation, our independent charity. Having a place on National Numeracy’s leadership council and gender taskforce will gives us a stronger voice to advocate on this topic and build a better working world."
National Numeracy is an independent charity working to empower people in disadvantaged communities to thrive, building number confidence and skills to help open up the educational, employment and financial opportunities that lead to brighter futures. We work where need is greatest, and where improving numeracy can drive social mobility.
