National Numeracy celebrates numeracy success at the Lord Mayor’s Show

11 Nov 2024

On Saturday 9 November, National Numeracy had the honour of being part of the Lord Mayor’s Show for the third time.

Around 7,000 participants from various organisations and charities walked through the streets of London for the historic parade, which marked the first public engagement for the new Lord Mayor of London, Alastair King.

A great day to champion numeracy in London

As a charity partner of The Lord Mayor’s Appeal, National Numeracy has been able to make huge progress in London when it comes to helping people improve their everyday numeracy skills and confidence, with 534 Numeracy Champions trained across all London boroughs via the Every Londoner Counts initiative.

Every Londoner Counts has also enjoyed working with amazing delivery partners across all sectors: charities, schools, corporate partners and government.

Wearing branded blue jackets and carrying banner flags and umbrellas, the National Numeracy group were this year joined by representatives from Capital City Campus College, City Gateway, YMCA, the London Borough of Tower Hamlets and the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham.

We also walked alongside fellow Lord Mayor’s Appeal charity partners, MQ Mental Health Research and the Royal Foundation’s Homewards programme, during the journey through the capital.

Lord Mayor Alastair King was seen waving to those taking part in the centuries-old tradition, which featured magnificent and colourful costumes, giant inflatables, horses, dogs and even a Shetland pony.

Sam Sims, Chief Executive of National Numeracy said:

“It was an honour for National Numeracy to take part in the Lord Mayor’s Show for the third and final year of our charity partnership with the Lord Mayor’s Appeal.

“The prestigious event provided a great opportunity to reflect on our collective achievements in supporting Londoners over the last three years, not least through our training of over 500 Numeracy Champions as part of the Every Londoner Counts initiative.

“We wish the Lord Mayor’s Appeal all the best for the future and congratulate Alastair King on becoming the 696th Lord Mayor of London!”
