Number Hero competition to give away £6,000 worth of prizes to schools and youth groups

29 Mar 2022

National Numeracy is delighted to invite children across the country to get involved in the Number Heroes competition for National Numeracy Day 2022, with six prize bundles worth at least  £1,000 each up for grabs.

We would like children to create a picture of how they will use numbers in their lives when they grow up. Maybe they would love to become a vet, teacher, engineer or footballer? Or dream of spending their days dancing, baking or saving the planet?

We want to encourage children to let their imaginations run wild when it comes to numbers. To take part, children can create a picture of themselves doing their dream job or hobby and tell us how it uses numbers.

After the soaraway success of our inaugural children’s competition last year, for National Numeracy Day’s fifth birthday on 18 May 2022, we have expanded the competition to offer six entry categories.

Even more children – from nurseries, primary and secondary school pupils, homeschoolers and youth groups - can get involved and win one of six £50 gift tokens and certificates for themselves and numeracy prize packs worth at least £1,000 for their school or setting. There will also be three runners-up prizes in each category.

Each prize pack contains all the games, books and resources you need to get everyone in your community feeling like a Number Hero. The prize packs are provided by National Numeracy and National Numeracy Day Founding Supporter KPMG and Numberblocks, Numbots, Times Tables Rock Stars and White Rose Maths.

The winners will be selected by our celebrity Ambassador Bobby Seagull, the maths teacher and TV personality who recently appeared on E4’s The Real Dirty Dancing and Channel 4’s The Answer Trap.

“From measuring a free kick at football to measuring medicines as a doctor, every hobby or career children can imagine has numbers in it,” said Bobby. “Our kids can all be Number Heroes, and I can’t wait to see what fantastic ideas they come up with for our National Numeracy Day competition!”

Children can take part at home or through their nursery, school, youth group or organisation and must be aged between 3 and 13 and a UK resident. The closing date for entering your pictures is midnight on Tuesday 31 May 2022. Please visit our  Number Heroes competition web page for details of how to submit your pictures and the full terms and conditions of the competition. We can’t wait to see your creative and colourful entries!
