Number Confidence Week toolkit

Welcome to the Number Confidence Week team!

From Monday 4 to Friday 8 November we want schools across the UK to join in and build confidence with numbers among staff and children. And this year, we're focusing on the powerful link between gender and number confidence, and how it impacts us all.

In the lead-up to the campaign we will be adding a variety of resources to this page, curated to help students see the value in numeracy, challenge gendered attitudes, and empower everyone from teaching assistants to parents to build their confidence.

By signing up to be part of Number Confidence Week we're also giving you full access to the Family Maths Toolkit: our unique set of 230+ resources aimed at helping adults and children grow in confidence together.

Check back for more updates, and together let's challenge negative number stereotypes and unlock new opportunities for everyone!

7 tips to help close the gender numeracy gap

There is an alarming gender gap when it comes to number confidence, with almost 24% of women saying they feel nervous when dealing with maths, but only 12% of men saying the same. And this starts at a young age, with 54% of British girls not feeling confident learning maths compared to 41% of boys.

BUT steps can be taken when teaching to tackle this. Watch this video from maths teachers Bobby Seagull and Susan Okereke to hear their tips, and download their tip sheet.

Supporting Children

The need to support our children's learning can motivate us to build our confidence with numbers. And helping our children have a positive relationship with numbers is so valuable.

Here Dr Linda Papadopoulos shares her top tips for understanding how our early experiences can impact our confidence with numbers.
